Vibrata: Creating Social Coherence

Harnessing the power of social networking to foster social resonance.

“No problem can be solved from the same consciousness that created it. We have to think with a new mind.” Albert Einstein

Social media is a fascinating medium through which cleverly crafted experiences spread like wildfire throughout hundreds of millions of users within an astonishingly short period of time. Many people have the sense that there is something more to the phenomenon, perhaps an untapped potential beyond tending and feeding virtual farms and pets.

An examination of the social media space for applications focused on improving our world, however, reveals only a few efforts. Most noteworthy is the Facebook-based app Causes. Though little more than a bumper sticker-like badge on one’s profile, the app became the platform’s second most active, enlisting 100 million users. Causes is a clear indicator both that we are ready to come together to improve our world, and that social media affords an effective means to do so. However, it has failed to leverage their effort in any actionable way.

It is well-documented and increasingly accepted that consciousness can effect change in reality. Studies continue to empirically demonstrate this, not only at the quantum level, but at scale from individuals modifying the structure of DNA to groups of meditators lowering crime citywide(2).

That it does so and why are outside the scope of this document. This is not entirely a surprise; the knowledge of this ‘internal technology’ exists, but has become latent. Some form of prayer is encoded into nearly every belief system on Earth. It is described by many methods, among them living from the heart, meditation, heart coherence, and psychophysiological coherence. Whatever name/philosophy toolset may resonate with us, it is time we rediscover and embrace this tool.

Vibrata is a revolutionary approach to leveraging the power of social networks to educate about and encourage coherence at both the individual and community levels. The effort comprises two projects: a web-based resource library where users can learn about psychophysiological coherence(3) and a social component that allows users to create and invite friends to “Compassion Campaigns,” self-organized groups that coordinate regular times at which the community comes together for a particular effort/cause.

As an example, imagine a user named George joins Vibrata and decides to create a campaign called “Papandreou’s Weekly Greek Solvency Gathering.” George decides to bring the group together at noon Athens time each Wednesday for a 30-minute session wherein members focus on prosperity and abundance for the Greek people.

George then invites all of his friends to join the campaign. Many do, and some even invite further friends. One, named Angela, is impressed with the idea and elects to create her own campaign, “Merkel’s Meditation.”

This is how the Vibrata network grows. The experience is simple, yet powerful; the effect, profound. Because each Compassion Campaign functions as a gathering place for the community supporting it, Vibrata also naturally brings together people around issues mutually important to them, forming new relationships and deepening existing ones.

As well, all communities are included in a monthly network-wide event, simultaneous to the Global Coherence Initiative’s full-moon meditations(4). This “super-community” may also hold special ad-hoc sessions as world events demand.

Vibrata’s operational requirements will be met by a cluster of simple, modular services to afford infrastructure for future services (e.g. email/SMS gateway for reminders, or a mobile app). These initially include the following:

– web site:
– project web presence
– resource library

– core services: REST services wrapping user/community data

– hosted facebook app

90-DAY BUDGET ($k)

2 design: web
2 design: app
1 hosting and operations: web & app
5 facebook app
3 laptop
1 legal: incorporating 501©(3)
11 salary expense
25 TOTAL ($k)

The project is to be implemented in two phases:

Iteration 1 (6 weeks):
– back-end services to store user metadata/preferences
– basic facebook app: social functionality (join/invite) and super-community level wall
– initial design work starts on both website and facebook app
+ non-technical spin up: incorporating, web site/blog/twitter, outreach for advisors

Iteration 2 (6 weeks):
– back-end services to store campaign metadata/preferences and memberships
– facebook app extended to allow user to create/join/invite to campaigns, walls for each
– design finalized & extended to include campaign functionality
+ extensive outreach, community-building, press release & radio/podcast promotion

All of the pieces are here. It is time to assemble them. We must tend not to relationships with virtual farms and pets, but to those with our own planet and people.

Thank you for considering Vibrata in the 1440 Challenge.
