Building Resilience from the Inside Out

The mission of the Inner Resilience Program is to cultivate the inner lives of students, teachers and schools by integrating social and emotional learning with contemplative practice. IRP was founded in 2002 to rebuild the inner strength and resilience of NYC teachers, parents, and children after the events of September 11th, 2001. The IRP of today cultivates teaching and learning environments that assist teachers and students in the skills of self-regulation, attention, and caring for others.

The IRP framework includes regular classroom instruction using a K-8 curriculum, a classroom management approach that values reflection, mindfulness based practices that are integrated throughout the curriculum, and professional development that strengthens educators’ and parents’ SEL and inner life skills.
